Resilient Floors (e.g. Vinyl, Linoleum and Rubber)

The most common types of resilient floor are vinyl, linoleum and rubber. They are normally chosen as a floor surface because they are highly stain resistant, straightforward to keep clean and very sturdy. They are therefore a popular choice in domestic kitchens and bathrooms as well as commercial environments such as schools and hospitals. Like any floor covering however they do require regular cleaning maintenance.

Resilient Floor Maintenance

Most types of resilient floors will require a surface sealer not only to make it look attractive but also to help keep it clean. Some sealants can also be applied to give the floor a shiny finish. A drawback of surface sealers is that they do slowly wear off and require reapplication. The only way to deal with this is to periodically strip the floor, have it thoroughly cleaned and then resealed. Abracadabra Cleaning Services provide a comprehensive “strip, clean and seal” service for all types of resilient floors. We can also provide help and guidance on how to keep these floor surfaces clean between professional cleaning maintenance visits.

Sealing a Resilient Floor

The sealing process on a clean resilient floor can either be a one or two stage process. A vinyl floor which has been exposed to a degree of wear and tear should look perfectly presentable after it has been stripped of its previous sealer and thoroughly cleaned using professional rotary equipment. However, it is unavoidable that foot traffic across any floor will cause a degree of permanent degradation and this may be noticeable on a vinyl floor once it has been professionally cleaned. An application of a quality sealant will however give the floor a much more “luxurious” and evenly finished silk / matt appearance. Not only will this even out and enhance the appearance of the floor but it will also protect the floor by making it more resistant to wear and staining. It may be desirable to give the floor a surface shine. If this is the case, the second stage of the process would be to apply a professional grade floor shine product on top of the sealer. This would give the floor a highly reflective shine. One drawback however of choosing a shiny finish is that it requires more frequent and specialised maintenance to keep it reflective on an ongoing basis.

Below is a picture of sealant being applied to a clean vinyl floor.
